  DeKalb County Health Department
2009 H1N1 Preliminary Vaccination Plan

The DeKalb County Health Department’s initial shipment of vaccine was used to vaccinate those in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) high priority Target Groups including healthcare and emergency medical providers and pregnant women. A public clinic at the Health Department on November 1, 2009, served approximately 2500 individuals in the Target Groups.

DeKalb County is experiencing the same vaccine production delay that is occurring nationwide. The timing and amount of vaccine shipments is unknown in advance. In addition, our initial shipment was a limited quantity, and it is unknown if and when we will have a large quantity on hand at a given time.

In addition to the Health Department, nearly 50 healthcare providers in DeKalb County, including private physicians, clinics, KishHealthSysytem, Northern Illinois University Health Services and pharmacies, have registered with the Illinois Department of Public Health to receive vaccine. These providers are also experiencing significant delays in expected shipments of vaccine. Once vaccine has been received, residents will have a variety of providers from which to access vaccination.

The CDC requests that members of the public that want to receive this vaccine be patient as the program expands and more vaccine becomes available. According to CDC, there will be enough vaccine available for anyone who wishes to receive it..

The Health Department will offer vaccination to those in the CDC initial target groups first, then the remaining supply of vaccine will be offered to all other residents that want it.

In accordance with federal grant regulations, the Health Department will provide the vaccine at no charge.  Other healthcare providers may charge an administration fee and may bill third party payers.
